Joseph Wong has been appointed the University of Toronto’s vice-president, international, for a five-year term. Dr. Wong was appointed the interim vice-president, international, last summer and is a professor of political science and the Roz and Ralph Halbert professor of innovation at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. While serving as interim vice-president, Dr. Wong worked with the vice-provost, students, to rethink supports for international students who were not able to travel to Toronto due to COVID-19 restrictions or who needed help navigating public health guidelines when they arrived. His appointment runs from April 7 to June 30, 2026. 

Shawn Flynn is the new president of St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta. Dr. Flynn has held several roles at the college, including academic dean, vice-president, academic, and most recently as interim president. He is an associate professor of Hebrew Bible and focuses his research on the ancient context of these scripturesWhile at the college, Dr. Flynn has led partnerships and interactions with the U of A and attracted a major scholarly conference to campus. He also helped increase enrolments and build consistent teaching assistant support in the college’s courses. 

The University of Lethbridge has named Kathy Greenwood its new vice-president, development and alumni relations. She joins the U of Lethbridge from Ketchum Canada Inc. — a consulting firm that helps the non-profit sector in fundraising, strategy and analytics — where she was partner and senior vice-president. Previously, she was the director of development at the University of Calgary and the vice-president and chief development officer at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.  

Gwen Chapman has been named the University of Guelph’s new provost and vice-president, academic. She begins her new role on May 1. Dr. Chapman has served as interim provost since Aug. 2020, after being dean of the university’s College of Social and Applied Human Sciences and a faculty member in the department of family relations and applied nutritionBefore coming to U of Guelph, Dr. Chapman was associate dean, academic, of the faculty of land and food systems at the University of British Columbia. 

The University of Windsor announced that Clinton Beckford will serve as acting vice-president, equity, diversity and inclusion, for a two-year appointment. Dr. Beckford is the associate dean, teacher education, in the university’s faculty of education. While serving in this interim position, Dr. Beckford will provide guidance, advocacy, insight and leadership as the U of Windsor works toward establishing a senate-governed leadership role at the vice-president level and lead a process to establish bylaws for a permanent EDI position. 

MacEwan University has appointed a new dean of its faculty of nursing. Christy Raymond will return to MacEwan in the role after four years at the University of Alberta, where she was the associate dean, undergraduate programs, in the faculty of nursing. Before this, she served as acting associate dean and an assistant professor at MacEwan. Along with the new dean position at MacEwan, she will also take up a faculty position as a professor in the department of health systems and sustainability. Dr. Raymond begins a five-year term on June 1.
