The University of Calgary announced that Kristin Baetz is the new dean of its faculty of science. Dr. Baetz joins the U of C for a renewable five-year term on Jan. 1, 2022. She is currently a professor and the assistant dean, research and special projects, for the faculty of medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Baetz served as the director of the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology from 2014 to 2019 and was a Tier II Canada Research Chair from 2005 to 2015. She is a current member of the board of Research Canada and the former president of the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences.
Ryan Rice is the new curator of OCAD University’s Onsite Gallery. Mr. Rice, who is Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) of Kahnawake and an associate professor and associate dean in the faculty of arts and science, has 30 years of curatorial experience in museums, artist-run centres and galleries. In his new role, Mr. Rice will play a leadership role in the conceptualization and organization of exhibits and public engagement at the Onsite Gallery, and will gear this work towards the OCAD U community, the general public and Indigenous communities.
Acadia University announced its chancellor, Bruce Galloway, was reappointed for a second term and serve as chancellorwill serve until 2024. Mr. Galloway was an Acadia student and athlete in the 1960’s, and graduated with a bachelor of commerce degree in 1968. After graduation, he joined the Royal Bank of Canada and was appointed vice-chairman from 1994 until he retired in 1999. Mr. Galloway is the past chair of Ovarian Cancer Canada and the Oakville Hospital Foundation. He was also an ex-officio cabinet member of the Campaign for Acadia and served on Acadia’s board of governors from 1991 to 2009. He was awarded with an honorary doctor of civil laws by Acadia in 2003.
Kelly Williams-Whitt begins a new role as dean of the faculty of business and communication studies at Mount Royal University on Aug. 23. Dr. Williams-Whitt joins Mount Royal from the University of Lethbridge where she served in multiple capacities for 18 years, including professor and associate dean for the Dhillon School of Business. She is an expert in labour relations and teaches labour and employment law, bargaining, diversity and advanced organizational behaviour.
