Memorial University announced that Delores Mullings has been appointed as its first vice-provost, equity, diversity and inclusion. Dr. Mullings came to Memorial in 2009 as an assistant professor and later served as associate professor, interim associate dean of undergraduate programs and chair in teaching and learning in the school of social work. She has also worked for community organizations that provide resources and services to survivors of war, torture, hate crimes, violent crimes, poverty and homelessness. As the inaugural vice-president, EDI, Dr. Mullings will work to build strong relationships with senior administration, academic and student leaders and the broader university community to advance the university’s EDI goals.
On Oct. 1, Mary I. Ingraham will begin her new role as dean of the faculty of arts at Saint Mary’s University. Dr. Ingraham will join Saint Mary’s from the University of Lethbridge, where she served as the dean of fine arts. She also served as a professor of musicology and the director of the Sound Studies Institute at the University of Alberta. She was born and raised in Nova Scotia and completed a bachelor of music in piano performance at Mount Allison University. She completed a master’s degree at the University of Victoria and a doctorate at the University of Nottingham in the U.K.
NSCAD University announced that interim president Sarah McKinnon will remain in the role until a new president is hired. Dr. McKinnon began the interim role in the summer of 2020 and has helped the university through a challenging year. She joined NSCAD from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she held the position of director of academics. Previously, she has held senior academic and administrative roles at the School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the University of Winnipeg and OCAD University.
Ikram Ahmed Jama has been appointed Carleton University’s interim assistant vice-president and university advisor, equity and inclusive communities. She will serve in the position from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021. Ms. Jama is currently the senior advisor in equity and human rights in the department of equity and inclusive communities. Since coming to Carleton in 2017, she has helped advance equity and human rights at the university and demonstrated a commitment to collaboration and shared vision.
MacEwan University welcomes Cheryl Earle as its new associate vice-president, financial services. Ms. Earle comes to MacEwan from the University of Alberta, where she served as the director of finance and administration for information and technology for eight years. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing MacEwan’s core business processes, collaborate with university leadership to prepare the university’s operating and capital budgets and provide financial operational support to faculties.
