David C. Malloy has been reappointed president of King’s University College, for a second term. The appointment is effective July 1, 2024, for a five-year term. Dr. Malloy was named the principal of King’s, which is affiliated with Western University, in 2019. His title was changed to president in 2021. He moved from the University of Regina, where he had a 30-year career as a faculty member and administrator.

Jeffrey J. Hennessy has been appointed president and vice-chancellor of Acadia University. He began his six-year term in September 2023. An Acadia alumnus, Dr. Hennessy returns to the university from Mount Allison University, where he most recently served as interim president and vice-chancellor. Prior to that, he was Mount Allison’s provost and vice-president, academic and research. He was Acadia’s director of the school of music from 2007-13, and dean of arts from 2014-19.

The University of Manitoba has appointed Ute Kothe to the position of dean, division of extended education, effective March 1. Dr. Kothe is currently serving as the department head of the department of chemistry in the faculty of science, since 2021. An accomplished researcher, Dr. Kothe has secured over $10 million in research funding and has published more than 30 articles and book chapters. While a faculty member at the University of Lethbridge, Dr. Kothe received the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2015 and was named Teaching Chair in 2020.

George Mutwiri has been appointed as the executive director of the University of Saskatchewan’s school of public health for a three-year term. He served as the school’s interim executive director from 2015 to 2017 and again from 2021 to Oct. 31, 2023. Dr. Mutwiri was previously an adjunct professor with the toxicology centre and an associate member in the department of veterinary microbiology in the Western College of University Medicine. Dr. Mutwiri grew up in a small village and Kenya and has spent more than 25 years at USask as an educator, research and academic leader. Prior to coming to Saskatchewan, he earned his doctor of veterinary medicine degree at the University of Nairobi and his PhD at the University of Guelph.
