Lisa Browne has been appointed the inaugural vice-president, advancement and external relations, at Memorial University. Currently, Ms. Browne is the CEO of Stella’s Circle, a charitable organization in St. John’s that provides housing, counselling and employment services to adults who face barriers to participating in their community. A graduate of Memorial, she has been an active university volunteer: she was a member of the Toronto alumni chapter; she served on the advisory boards of several units and programs, and on the board of regents as an elected alumni member. Ms. Browne also worked at Memorial as a lecturer in the faculty of business administration and operations manager of the Opportunity Fund campaign. Her appointment begins on Aug. 9.
Trinity Western University announced the appointment of Richard Chandra as its new associate provost, research. Dr. Chandra, who began his new position in May, has served as the university’s director of research services in 2019. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship in the department of chemistry at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Chandra worked as a research scientist for InnoTech Alberta. In his new role, he will work to provide leadership and vision for faculty research at the university, as well as represent the institution’s interests provincially, nationally, and internationally.
Andrew Robinson has been appointed interim chair of the board of governors at the University of Northern British Columbia. Mr. Robinson, formerly the board’s vice-chair, is the chief administrative officer of the Laxgalts’ap village government. He previously served as deputy representative, Aboriginal, for British Columbia’s representative for children and youth, as Indigenous consultation reviewer with B.C. Assets and Lands, and in a variety of positions with the McLeod Lake Indian Band and Nisga’a Lisims government. A graduate of UNBC, Mr. Robinson also served as a member of the university’s senate.
Robin Bright is taking on the position of dean of the University of Lethbridge’s faculty of education, effective July 1, on an interim basis. Dr. Bright, who has served in the faculty in many capacities since 1988, was most recently a professor of education and assistant dean of field experience. She is dedicated to writing instruction and literacy in teacher education, as well as an expert in professional teacher development. Dr. Bright received a Distinguished Teaching Award in 2005 and served as the teaching chair on the university’s board of governors from 2010 to 2012.
