Deborah Buszard was appointed interim president and vice-chancellor of the University of British Columbia. Dr. Buszard replaces Santa J. Ono, who left to take up the position of president of the University of Michigan. Dr. Buszard held the position of deputy vice-chancellor and principal of UBC Okanagan between 2012 and 2020. Prior to joining UBC in 2012, she was a founding member of the college of sustainability at Dalhousie University. She also served as dean of agricultural and environmental sciences and as associate vice-principal of McGill University’s Macdonald campus.
Acadia University has chosen Nancy Handrigan as its vice-president of advancement, a role she’s held on an interim basis since March 1, 2021. Ms. Handrigan joined Acadia in 2013 as executive director of philanthropy before being named campaign director of the university’s most ambitious fundraising initiative to date, in 2017. She holds an MA from McMaster University and a certified fundraising executive designation.
King’s University College, an affiliate of Western University, has welcomed Jennifer Slay as its director of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization. A professor of social work at Fanshawe College, Ms. Slay also runs a counselling and coaching business. She has held various roles at the Children’s Aid Society of London and Middlesex.
Leroy Little Bear has been named vice-provost, Iniskim Indigenous relations, at the University of Lethbridge. The new position was established to lead U of L’s strategy for reconciliation, Indigenous engagement and achievement, and Indigenous faculty and student support. Dr. Little Bear is the university’s Niitsitapi Scholar, senior adviser to the university president, and an adjunct professor in the Indigenous governance and business management program. He received the Order of Canada in 2019.
