Wilfrid Laurier University announced that Deborah MacLatchy has been appointed its president and vice-chancellor for a second five-year term, beginning July 1, 2022. Since taking on the role of president and vice-chancellor in 2017, Dr. MacLatchy has led the development of the Laurier Strategy: 2019-2024, expanded the reach and impact of the university’s Brantford campus and supported strategic initiatives that aimed to strengthen the university’s multi-campus vision. Dr. MacLatchy previously served as dean of Laurier’s faculty of science and, later, provost and vice-president, academic. Before this, she spent 13 years in various roles, including dean of science, applied science and engineering, at the University of New Brunswick.
On July 5, Simon Fraser University will welcome Tom Nault as its new university registrar and executive director, student enrollment. Mr. Nault is currently the university registrar and secretary to the senate at Memorial University. In this role, he was a key player in developing the university’s undergraduate enrollment plan and launched technology projects to support student success. Before joining Memorial, he served as registrar at Centennial College in Toronto and faculty registrar in the faculty of applied sciences and engineering at the University of Toronto.
Bill Boyte has been appointed general counsel and university secretary at Vancouver Island University. In this role, Mr. Boyte will serve as a senior policy advisor, provide direction and oversight to legal matters and the university’s bicameral system of governance, and assume the additional role of privacy officer, responsible for access to information and privacy policies, procedures and bylaws. Before coming to VIU, Mr. Boyte was the director of employment standards for the province of British Columbia. He is a practicing member of the Law Society of British Columbia and former member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
