Detlev Zwick has been named dean of the Schulich School of Business at York University. His five-year term began on July 1, 2021, when he was appointed interim dean. Prior to that role, Dr. Zwick served as the school’s associate dean academic, and earlier as director of its BBA/iBBA program. He has also represented the school on Senate and the Senate Executive Committee and has served on the Joint Committee on Affirmative Action. Dr. Zwick has been a member of the full-time faculty in Schulich’s Marketing program since 2002.
Athabasca University has announced Peter Scott as its president-designate. He will begin his term on Jan. 4, 2022. Dr. Scott was previously pro vice-chancellor (education) at the University of Technology Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Prior to that, he was in a senior leadership role at The Open University, U.K., as director of the Knowledge Media Institute, a multidisciplinary research and development lab. Dr. Scott holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Sheffield, U.K. His research focuses on how individual technical innovations can create new models of learning.
Gordon Binsted has been named deputy provost of York University’s Markham campus. His five-year term will begin Jan. 1, 2022. Dr. Binsted is joining York from the University of British Columbia, where he served as dean of the faculty of health and social development at the Okanagan campus starting in 2011. He held several other leadership roles during that time, including interim vice-principal academic and provost for UBC Okanagan. Dr. Binsted has taught at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne, as well as at UBC, and has held research fellow positions at the University of Aberdeen and the Beckman Institute in Illinois.
