Mount Saint Vincent University announced the appointment of Susan Trenholm as its new dean of professional studies and graduate studies. Dr. Trenholm joins MSVU from King’s College London in the U.K., where she was director of the university’s public policy and management program, chair of the postgraduate education committee and an elected member of its academic board and college council. Before her time in academia, she spent 20 years working in government and the private sector, which included advising the Ontario, Nova Scotia and federal governments and leading philanthropic and partnership investments for Pfizer Canada. Dr. Trenholm began her new role on Aug. 1.
The University of the Fraser Valley welcomes Tetsuomi Anzai as the new associate dean of faculty within its College of Arts. He first joined UFV in 2005 as a sessional instructor and became a permanent faculty member in 2007. He later served as department head of visual arts from 2009 to 2014 and was most recently the acting director of the School of Creative Arts. Mr. Anzai was a member of the College of Arts curriculum committee from 2008 to 2011, and served as chair until 2013. He began his five-year term on Sept. 1.
Jacqueline Gahagan became Mount Saint Vincent University’s new associate vice-president, research, on Sept. 1. Dr. Gahagan, a medical sociologist by training, is a member of the LGBTQ community and a former youth in care. They have worked in public health on many health inequities and issues, including HIV prevention, and hope to draw on their social justice background in their new role. Previously, Dr. Gahagan served as the head of the health promotion division and interim director of Dalhousie’s School of Health and Human Performance, and as a founding fellow of the MacEachen Institute for Policy and Governance.
Vancouver Island University welcomes Richard Horbachewski to the position of associate vice-president, community partnerships. In this role, Mr. Horbachewski will oversee the university’s advancement and alumni portfolios and community partnerships, and serve as VIU’s chief advancement officer and executive director of the VIU Foundation. Previously, Mr. Horbachewski worked at the Calgary Health Foundation and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Canadian Association of gift Planners and the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education.
