The University of New Brunswick’s Saint John campus invites applications for a Research Associate for a one-year term with the possibility of renewal, within the GlobalChild Program of Research commencing May 15, or a mutually acceptable date thereafter.

GlobalChild Program of Research is a vibrant program housed at UNB with the mandate of taking a rights-based approach to improving child development in Canada and beyond. The program is leading several international projects conducted in collaboration with the different United Nations (UN) agencies, universities across all regions of the world, child rights NGOs, and advocates.

The successful candidate will conduct research and scholarly activities including co-supervising graduate students, opportunities to give guest lectures for undergraduate courses, lead the ongoing grant writing efforts of the program, and support the program director with setting up the long-term goals as well as the strategic planning to achieve those goals.

To be considered for the position, the applicant must have a PhD degree, or be near completion, in any area of social science. Of particular interest to the program is a graduate of political science, interdisciplinary studies, law, sociology, child and youth development, human rights, and international development. Postdoctoral research experience would be an asset. The following skills and traits are essential for the role:  excellent oral and written communication; the capacity to work on a large international projects; being a team player with the capacity to hear and respect other team members, having the capacity to think quickly and decide promptly, enthusiasm about the mandate of the GlobalChild Program; desire to improve the lives of children across the globe; cultural sensitivity; and believing in the inherent value of all ideas and human dignity of all mankind.

This is a full-time, in-person, one-year term appointment subject to renewal. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
