Description:
The Department of Gender Studies at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Global/Transnational/ Decolonial Perspectives on Gender and Environmental Justice. Particular areas of interest include but are not limited to theory and practice of decolonial, environmental justice through intersectional feminisms. The Department is particularly seeking candidates with research interests that trace lineages and have lived experience from diasporic, global Indigenous, Black, or migrant communities. The Department invites and supports gender and queer interdisciplinary research methods, critical inquiry, and theoretical perspectives. The Department defines equity through an intersectional approach reflected in pedagogy, research, service, and lived experience. We encourage candidates to express how they align with this perspective. The Assistant Professor position commences July 1, 2025.

The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $100,011 - $123,543. Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent by date of appointment, a strong record of scholarship and/or creative work, a demonstrated commitment to teaching in an interdisciplinary undergraduate Gender Studies program at all levels, and the ability to draw on experiential knowledge in research and teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear potential for research excellence, teaching, curriculum development, publication, and student supervision and mentorship. Further, as a member of a small department, the candidate will be expected to share in administrative duties both at the departmental and university level and participate in the growth of the department (e.g. the candidate will be expected to teach in GNDR 100 to support the development of the program). Moreover, we are seeking a candidate who enjoys collaborative working environments and student engagement.

Research Stream Faculty
Research stream faculty’s normal workload is 40% research, 40% teaching and 20% service. All full-time faculty members not entitled to course release are expected to teach 6.0 units each year during the fall and spring terms (September to April); normally, two courses are taught in the fall term and two courses in the spring term. These courses will usually include 100-level, 200-level, and 300-level courses. The Department currently offers an undergraduate program; however, there is opportunity for faculty members to supervise and teach graduate level students in other programs. 

Faculty and Librarians at the University of Victoria are governed by the provisions of the Collective Agreement. Members are represented by the University of Victoria Faculty Association.
