Sociology - Assistant Professor

King’s University College at Western University, a Catholic liberal arts college situated on the traditional territories of the Haudenausaunee, Anishnaabeg, Lenaapeewak, and Attawandaron peoples, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Sociology. The successful candidate will have completed, or be near completion, a PhD in Sociology or related discipline and will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor as of July 1, 2021.

The successful candidate will attend to the disproportionate impact of the criminal justice system on Black and Indigenous peoples and people of colour, with a focus on one or more areas of critical race studies, restorative justice, community-based justice alternatives, Indigenous criminology, and/or abolitionist justice. We are particularly interested in the work of Black and Indigenous scholars and scholars of colour whose research and teaching critically examine power, inequality, and colonialism. The successful candidate is expected to situate criminological knowledge in sociohistorical context and highlight a multitude of voices within the field of criminology. In addition to teaching in their area of expertise, they will teach Introductory Sociology. 

The Department of Sociology at King’s University College offers undergraduate programs in Sociology and Criminology. With fourteen faculty, our programs build upon a strong core of sociological and criminological theory and research methods to offer a range of substantive topics and innovative learning opportunities.
