Position description
The McGill University Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Faculty Lecturer (Teaching). This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health is part of the School of Population and Global Health within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in teaching; they will be expected to participate in both in-person and online teaching.

The incumbent will be expected to develop content for, and teach, up to four 3-credit biostatistics and data science courses per year. The successful candidate will assist in the oversight and management of the department’s online programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in committees and other service roles while involved in discussing best teaching practices within the School of Population and Global Health, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the University. Other tasks may include the following:

  • Transforming existing teaching material for use in online formats;
  • Supervising students in biostatistics and epidemiologic research projects;
  • Assisting with the coordination and teaching of external/professional development workshops.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements
The incumbent will be expected to have a strong background in biostatistics and data science. They should have experience in coordinating and teaching lectures in biostatistics, as well as supervising students.

Candidates must have:

  • A PhD in Biostatistics (or equivalent);
  • A demonstrated ability to teach core topics in biostatistics;
  • A demonstrated ability to teach data science and statistical programming using R and other software;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and proven ability to work in a team;
  • A demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and inclusive pedagogy;
  • Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within few years of appointment is
