Ngai Pindell has been appointed the new dean of the Pater A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia for a five-year term. Mr. Pindell is currently a professor of law at the Willian S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as well as a governor-appointed commissioner for the Nevada Equal Rights Commission. He has held several senior academic and administrative roles, including vice-provost, special advisor to the executive and vice-president, associate dean of academic affairs, and vice-dean in the Boyd School of Law. Mr. Pindell is a Duke University and Harvard Law School graduate.
The University of Manitoba announced the appointment of Tracey Peter as vice-provost, academic affairs. While in her new position, which began on July 1, Dr. Peter will retain her appointment as a professor in the department of sociology and criminology in the faculty of arts. Previously, Dr. Peter served as acting academic director for the Centre for Social Science Research and Policy at the U of M and as associate head, sociology and criminology. She sat on the president’s task force on equity, diversity and inclusion and chaired its data sub-committee. She also serves as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of LGBT Youth.
In July, St. Jerome’s University welcomed Michael Pautler as the new chair of its board of governors. Mr. Pautler is the owner principal of M.W. Pautler & Associates, a consultant and management company. Previously, he has been the executive director of the Institute for Catholic Education in Toronto, director of education at the Halton Catholic district school board and superintendent of education for the Durham Catholic district school board. Mr. Pautler has been a member at large on the university’s board of governors since 2019.
Ujwal Kayande, an associate dean and professor of marketing at the Melbourne Business School in Australia, will join Simon Fraser University as the new dean of the Beedie School of Business in January 2022. Dr. Kayande has been a professor in marketing strategy and business analytics at the Melbourne Business School since 2013 and later became the founding director of the school’s Centre for Business Analytics. He was also the co-director of the Delivering Value through Digital Executive Education program, which was jointly delivered by the University of Oxford. Dr. Kayande spent part of his childhood in Edmonton and returned to Canada to complete his PhD at the University of Alberta in 1998.
