St. Mary’s University is seeking applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor with a teaching specialization in Literacy Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the ELA Curriculum and Literacy courses in both of our B.Ed. programs, but teaching versatility would be an asset. The ideal candidate would have a strong research and funding record for this rank. The Department of Education at St. Mary’s comprises a small, collaborative faculty and staff. We offer two-year after-degree elementary and secondary education programs steeped in the Catholic intellectual tradition and have a strong record of fostering excellent teachers. We are in the process of applying to offer a Master’s of Education in Catholic Leadership.

APPOINTMENT DATES: July 1, 2025 to August 1, 2025

WORKLOAD:
The successful candidate will be hired in the Teaching-Research-Service stream. The teaching workload in this stream is normally eighteen (18) academic credit hours (six 3-credit courses) per academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D in a field of Education by date of appointment;
  • A B.Ed. or equivalent with K-12 experience (preferably in both Elementary and Secondary);
  • Demonstrated post-secondary teaching excellence in Literacy Education with experience in drama- based pedagogies (a demonstrated ability to teach social studies methods would also be an asset);
  • An active program of research with a strong record of funding and publication commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, innovate, and foster an inclusive and respectful environment;
  • Ability to promote, or at least respect, the institution’s Catholic mission and identity;
  • Ability to promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation.
