Veterinary Medicine - Assistant or Associate Professor (Veterinary Anatomical Pathology)

Situated in the heart of Quebec’s agri-food hub, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for training veterinarians to meet the full range of animal health needs. It is the only French-language veterinary faculty in North America and is recognized internationally for its innovations in research. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology encourages transdisciplinary collaboration based on the One Health concept in both teaching and research. The goal is to restore, protect and promote the health of pets, livestock and wildlife. The Department’s professors share the common goal of providing students, interns and veterinarians with superior theoretical, practical and clinical training in pathology and microbiology.
Your day-to-day impact
Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- You will teach Veterinary Anatomical Pathology primarly in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, and contribute to graduate teaching;
- You will supervise and participate in the teaching and training of graduate students, including those enrolled in the residency program (DES) in anatomical pathology leading to certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP);
- You will develop an innovative research program in a relevant field of veterinary anatomical pathology; interdisciplinary collaboration on research projects is also encouraged;
- You will participate in diagnostic activities in anatomical pathology within the Veterinary Diagnostic Center at the University of Montreal;
- You will participate actively in the development of the discipline (publications, conferences, scientific activities, and others);
- You will contribute to the operation and development of the department, the Faculty, and the institution through contributions to committees and working groups.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree;
- Hold certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP); individuals eligible for the certification exams of these colleges will also be considered, but priority will be given to diplomates;
- Hold a Master’s degree in pathology or a related field or the equivalent (relevant research achievements);
- Hold or be in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. in pathology or a related field is an asset;
- Hold or obtain a license to practice from the Ordre des Médecins vétérinaires du Québec upon hiring;
- Demonstrate ability to provide high quality university teaching and advice to graduate students;
- Demonstrate ability to develop to conduct high quality research in the field of veterinary anatomical pathology;
- Demonstrate potential to develop internal, national and international collaborations;
- Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.
