Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The MUHC Division of General Internal Medicine is composed of a dynamic group of sub-specialists dedicated to providing high-quality patient-centered care for patients with acute or chronic complex medical conditions, including the care of patients throughout the perioperative period and patients with medical disorders of pregnancy. We practice across the MUHC teaching hospital network that includes the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the Lachine Hospital, and the Montreal Neurological Hospital. We also provide on-site and telehealth sub-specialty support to the northern communities in Nunavik and Eeyou Istchee. We are a welcoming group of clinicians and researchers who take pride in our nationally renowned programs in hospital medicine, ambulatory care, medical education, perioperative care, obstetric medicine, thrombosis medicine, quality improvement and indigenous community outreach.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).

As a Clinician-Teacher, your major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.

Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical inpatient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments) across the MUHC network, as well as to outpatient clinics. We are seeking a candidate with an interest/experience in auto-immune disorders to fill a teaching need/gap in addition to providing much needed clinical service for this underserved population. The incumbent will also be heavily involved in undergraduate medical education with an expectation that they devote over 100hrs per year in medical student teaching contact time (i.e. in class/small group teaching).

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in other aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education requirements

  • Hold an MD degree, and must hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
  • Have completed specialty training in General Internal Medicine with additional training in Rheumatology;
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • Hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are required. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
