Bishop’s University sits on the unceded traditional territory of the Abenaki people, members of the Wabanaki Confederacy.

The School of Education of Bishop’s University (Sherbrooke, Quebec) invites applications for two (2) full- time, ten-month temporary appointments. The first position will focus mainly on English Language Arts and English as a Second Language; the second will focus on Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. Both positions will include courses in the B.Ed. at the elementary and secondary levels. The appointment will start on August 1, 2025, or a mutually convenient time. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D., or academic qualifications judged by the Appointments Committee to be acceptable in its place.

Bishop’s University is primarily an undergraduate university dedicated to interdisciplinarity, consistent with its liberal education mission. Commitment to undergraduate teaching is highly valued. The teaching load is six courses, some of which may be outside one’s area. The professor's teaching assignment will include courses that involve learning about teaching and learning, curriculum development, and the nature of professional practice, elements which are supportive of practicum experiences.

Some examples of courses that the candidate focused on English Language Arts and TESL might teach are: EDU 211 Introduction to Young Adult Literature and Texts “Beyond the Canon”; EDU 308 Teaching English Grammar; EDU 331 Methods of Teaching Language Arts I (elementary); and EDU 341 Methods in the Teaching of Language Arts at the Secondary Level I.

Some examples of courses that the candidate focused on Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning might teach are EDU 138 Foundations of the Teaching Profession (elementary); EDU 410 Effective Teaching and Evaluation Methods II (Secondary); and possibly a disciplinary methods classes in areas such as social sciences or science and technology (elementary and/or secondary).

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues, including the Director of Practice Teaching, to support students’ practicum experiences. Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program or other competency-based curricula is a highly desired asset. Candidates whose research takes into account teaching and learning, and/or teacher education, teacher learning, practitioner research, or other related fields specific to the positions will also be favored.
