The unit's mission is to provide teacher candidates with an outstanding professional program and an outstanding learning experience through a deep commitment to excellence in teacher education, to serving the interests of all students, and to imaginative leadership, creative renewal, and effective administration of the Bachelor of Education program.
Responsibilities
The Manager provides extensive administrative leadership that ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Teacher Education program and a high level of service to applicants, teacher candidates, and faculty. The role oversees and manages all administrative functions, services, personnel, and operations that support the Teacher Education program. The Manager will provide oversight for instructor hiring, marketing and recruiting, admissions, academic counselling, academic appeals, timetabling, course registration, student records, grades, student awards, and student services. The role implements and interprets university policies and regulations, and recommends and advises on the development and implementation of new policies to identify opportunities for improvement. The role will participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans to ensure growth and sustainability, and will continually monitor existing, and implement new, programs and processes to ensure the Faculty maintains compliance with changes introduced by the Ministry of Education and/or Ontario College of Teachers.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Management/Administration
- Master’s Degree in Management/Administration, additional courses in management/leadership such as CIM is preferred
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience in a management role with supervisory accountabilities
- Administrative experience managing an educational program and student services in a post-secondary institution is preferred
- Experience supervising staff in a unionized setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
- Excellent problem solving skills and an ability to influence others
- Ability to develop a strong department team coupled with an ability to work effectively as a member of the management team
- A continuous quality improvement approach to evaluation and program development Ability to motivate others to maintain quality services in a constantly changing environment
- Strong communication, team, and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Advanced computer skills including spreadsheet design, word processing, and database management Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to build strong, collegial relationships with teacher candidates, faculty, the public, and colleagues across the University
- Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
- Flexibility and confidentiality
- Budget and office management principles
- Knowledge of the Ontario teacher education and school systems and the regulations of the Ontario College of Teachers and Ministry of Education
