Director – Faculty Bargaining Services
CAUBO
Founded in 1937, CAUBO is a non-profit professional organization representing the interest of administrative and financial officers in Canadian universities and affiliated colleges. It is an umbrella organization for the many players in university administration. Supported by a vibrant community of volunteers, CAUBO offers a wide array of programs and services.
Faculty Bargaining Services (FBS) operates as a service within the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) to support Canadian universities in academic labour relations. FBS is made up of 79 Canadian universities and 6 associations. Approximately 700 individuals across these institutions have access to the full range of FBS services, including professional development programming, support from an assigned field representative, research and analysis, and access to the web application featuring salary data, collective agreements, webinars, and other resources.
FBS’s vision is to promote excellence in academic labour relations to ensure the success of Canadian universities. For more details about our vision and the strategies we’re undertaking to achieve it, please refer to the 2023-2028 FBS Strategic Plan.
FBS is seeking a Director to lead the organization, oversee the development and delivery of its services, and advance the vision and strategies outlined in the strategic plan. Reporting to a Management Committee of senior academic and administrative vice-presidents and the CAUBO Board through the Executive Director, the Director will provide strategic leadership and ensure FBS remains responsive to member needs. Attending regional and national meetings, the Director will stay informed on academic priorities and emerging collective bargaining issues.
The Director oversees and coordinates the work of four regional field representatives (all experienced in academic negotiations who advise members regionally) and manages FBS staff, who work remotely. The Director ensures FBS remains responsive to the needs of member institutions and negotiating teams. With direction from the Management Committee and guidance from the Professional Development and Data and Web Advisory Committees, the Director sets priorities and strategic direction, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to support member needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a high capacity to work independently and lead in a multi-stakeholder environment. They will possess extensive senior-level knowledge of the university sector and experience in academic negotiations through active participation in bargaining. Effective communication with stakeholders is critical to success in this role.
An advanced degree is required. Bilingualism is an asset (preferred but not essential).
This is a 4-day per week (0.8 FTE) remote position, which on occasion requires in-person presence to attend the annual conference, workshops, or regional meetings.
The effective start date is September 2025, although alternative arrangements may be considered.
A copy of the job description is available on HighEdJobs.ca. Please submit your application, under confidential cover, to Dr. Lori Livingston, Chair of the FBS Management Committee, through [email protected] no later than May 23, 2025.
