Position description:
The Department Human Anatomy & Cell Science invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commencing September 1, 2025, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks an emerging educational scholar with a commitment to excellence in anatomy teaching and research. The successful candidate is expected to teach across a host of health science programs (such as medicine, dentistry, rehabilitative sciences, physician assistants, pharmacy, and surgical or medical resident training) and is expected to integrate different anatomy subdisciplines into their teaching.

This position offers protected time for research, resources to assist with the preparation of grant applications, support for individual professional development and opportunities for productive collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and educators from a variety of disciplines. The successful candidate will complement and integrate into the department’s research group in educational scholarship and will work towards a lead role to promote and expand the national and international visibility of our scholarship of teaching and learning activities.

The successful candidate will also have administrative/service responsibilities including participation in departmental, Faculty and University of Manitoba committees, outreach activities and other activities as decided upon at the time of hire. 

The Department currently has 16 full time faculty members, 14 in the professorial stream and two Instructors, and offers expertise in a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in the health sciences. The Department's main teaching lab has resently undergone a major 4.3 million dollar renovation and now includes dedicated research space for conducting cadaveric-based biomedical and applied clinical anatomy research. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVI4czToYFM

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a PhD (and/or an M.D. degree) and demonstrate a strong track record of teaching excellence in structured courses in the fields of human gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology and/or embryology.

Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to contribute to team-based anatomical instruction in laboratory, small group, and large group settings.

Demonstrated experience in anatomy teaching, which incorporates innovative methodologies such as laboratory-based human anatomical dissection, case-based learning, problem-based learning, technology-assisted learning, online learning, and “flipped” classroom is required. Additional experience in course administration, curriculum development, models of online learning, 3D anatomy, AI learning tools, and/or assisting with surgical skills workshops is an asset. The department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science is currently expanding its postgraduate and undergraduate educational streams, especially in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program.

As an educational scholar, the applicant must possess a proven (or emerging) track record of peer-reviewed publication in medical education and clinical science journals, with dissemination at the national and/or international level. The recruit will have (or demonstrate the potential to establish) an innovative and collaborative program of research that is capable of securing funding through competitive operating grants and/or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning awards. Their scholarship of teaching and learning activities will be expected to strengthen the Department’s capacity to conduct interdisciplinary research, and support the growth of the department’s graduate program through the recruitment and supervision of graduate students at the Masters and PhD level.

The successful candidate will have administrative and leadership experience that may include course coordination, serving on departmental and curricular committees related to academic progression, admissions, evaluations, and academic hiring.
