Psychology - Postdoctoral Fellowship or Research Internship

Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)

The Research Laboratory on Social Behavior (RLSB) of the Psychology Department at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellowship. The postdoctoral position is associated with the Canada Research Chair on Motivational Processes and Optimal Functioning held by Professor Robert J. Vallerand. The position is full-time and for 12 months, renewal once. It will start on August 1st, 2025, although the starting date is negotiable. The compensation is $50,000 for 12 months, plus social advantages, the opportunity to apply for a research grant, and travel expenses for presentations at scientific conferences. Students who have completed their Master's degree and wish to complete a one or two year intensive research internship before beginning doctoral studies are also encouraged to apply. The salary will be $35,000 for 12 months.

The RLSB conducts theoretical research on motivational processes (in various natural, laboratory and online contexts) and trains researchers and university professors. Over 25 former RLSB students are now working as university professors in Canada and in Europe.
The goal of the Canada Research Chair (CRC) is to develop theoretical knowledge on motivational processes (including the concept of passion) and optimal functioning. The CRC has four research components, some of which are psychophysiological in nature:

  1. The role of passion in cognitive processes;
  2. The role of passion in a temporal perspective and optimal functioning in society;
  3. The role of passion in group and intergroup processes;
  4. The role of motivational processes in self-growth.

As a postdoctoral fellow or research intern, the candidate will work closely with Professor Robert J. Vallerand and his team. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, autonomous, creative, able to conduct several research projects, and to write scientific papers in English and French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD (or Masters as the case may be) in psychology or a related field;
  • Excellent research skills including scientific writing (both in English and French);
  • Have a CV including scientific publications published in international journals;
  • Have expertise in advanced statistical analyzes (e.g., SEM, HLM).
  • Having technical knowledge (e.g., E-Prime, Biopac, and IT environment) would be an additional asset.

Candidates are encouraged to send their CV, a motivation letter, scientific publications, and two names of reference to Professor Robert J. Vallerand before May 23rd, 2025 at [email protected] with Michael Sam Tion in cc to [email protected]
