The Faculty of Business, Communications Studies and Aviation has a student body of approximately 3,899 students and is composed of the Bissett School of Business, the School of Communication Studies, and the Aviation program with a flight school. The School of Business hosts four departments: General Management & Human Resources, Accounting & Finance, International Business & Supply Chain Management, and Entrepreneurship, Marketing & Social Innovation. The School of Communication Studies consists of four majors: Journalism and Digital Media, Broadcast Media Studies, Information Design, and Public Relations.

About the Department of Accounting and Finance
The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in both Accounting and Finance. The BBA - Finance major offers students three concentration choices: Financial Analysis, Financial Services, and Investment Fund Management. Students completing the Financial Analysis or Investment Fund Concentrations are well prepared to pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst ® (CFA) designation upon graduation. After completing all courses in the Financial Services concentration, students are prepared to write the examinations leading to the Certified Financial Planner ® (CFP) designation. 

About the Role
The Department of Accounting and Finance at the Bissett School of Business invites applications for a two-year limited-term Senior Lecturer position in Finance. The Senior Lecturer should be able to teach a wide range of Finance courses that are offered in the BBA (Finance) program. The annual workload of a Senior Lecturer includes course instruction, the equivalent of nine (9) three-hour classes per week each academic year, and engagement in service.

Teaching times will vary and may include both daytime and evening classes.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction:  course delivery, including preparation of course outlines, teaching all assigned classes, preparation of lessons and course assessments, invigilation of examinations, grading of assignments, quizzes, and examinations, development and maintenance of a course on D2L site, including a running grade book.
  • Administration:  maintenance of instructor office hours, input of final grades on course completion, participation in scheduled course meetings with other faculty.
  • Service: engage in service at the Faculty- and Academic-unit level including, but not limited to, course coordination, attendance at Academic Unit and committee meetings, mentoring student case competitions, organizing guest speaker events, and participating in Faculty Council and its standing committees. 

Qualifications
The following qualifications are required:

  • A master’s degree in finance from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Proficiency in teaching finance at an accredited post-secondary institution

Additionally, the successful candidate will have several of the following attributes:

  • Professional experience in finance
  • A professional finance designation (e.g. CFA or CFP)
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
  • A willingness to attend academic development seminars
