Job Summary
The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a full-time faculty member in its School of Education which includes undergraduate level pre-requisite courses; a 10 ½ month post-degree Bachelor of Education (BEd) for prospective elementary, middle, and secondary teachers; a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Mentorship; an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate; and an Inclusive Education Assistant (IEA) Certificate. Classes occur on the Mission campus. The School of Education is committed to anti-racism, social justice, decolonization, and Indigenization and these commitments are incorporated into every course and program. Our graduates are valued as educators because of their strong ability to integrate educational theory and knowledge into a reflective teaching practice that is critically minded, pedagogically sensitive, and socially just.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the IEA Certificate program and work collaboratively with a variety of faculty, sessionals, and staff. As this is the inaugural launch of the School’s IEA Certificate, the successful applicant will have the unique opportunity to set-up and coordinate practicum placements and relationships while supporting sessionals in this new program. There are also additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. A key responsibility of faculty in the School of Education is to ensure that IEA students are prepared to positively contribute to the inclusion of all students in Fraser Valley school districts and beyond. Given the values and commitments of the School of Education, we actively seek to include diverse perspectives and are intentional in our desire to support diverse identity expression.

This is a position for an educator who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative School, and whose philosophy about education is consistent with the mission statement, values and commitments for the MEd, BEd, ECE Certificate, and IEA Certificate. This individual will also share the faculty’s commitments to social justice and anti-racism, and to decolonizing and Indigenizing practices. As such, the successful candidate would have knowledge of the School values and commitments and will be able to embed them into their curriculum design and delivery.

Qualifications
Preference will be given to those applicants that can also teach in the BEd, ECE Certificate, and/or future programmatic plans (e.g., 5+ Certificates).

We are looking for one tenure track Type B faculty who can teach the following courses:

  • EDAS 190 (An Overview of Inclusive Schooling)
  • EDAS 192 (Support Strategies for Students in Schools)
  • EDAS 194 (The Role of the Education Assistants in Inclusive Schools)

The ability to teach a combination of the following courses would be advantageous:

  • EDAS 131 (Education Assistant Practicum)
  • EDAS 181 (Supporting the Autonomy, Belonging and Competence of Students with Complex Needs)

EDAS 182 (Social Emotional Learning and Mental Health in Schools)
