The Faculty of Education invites applications for a tenure track position for an Indigenous Educator at the Assistant Professor rank, preferred commencing date of January 1, 2026 or when the position is filled.
The Description
Applicants must have a university degree, with a preference for an advanced degree (Masters or Doctoral level). MSVU respects Indigenous ways of knowing and research, such as, but not limited to, being a Knowledge Sharer and/or Respected Elder within an Indigenous community and will consider these as part of a holistic review of each candidate's qualifications. The successful candidate will have expertise and lived experience working in partnership with indigenous communities to integrate Indigenous knowledge, culture, and pedagogy into the public-school curriculum. The successful candidate will work with and teach in both the Bachelor of Education and Graduate Education programs to support the Faculty of Education to implement the goals of the TRC Calls to Action related to education, particularly with regard to the development of age appropriate curriculum as well as teaching and research capacities in one or more of the following areas: Indigenous knowledge, Indigenous methodologies, Indigenous Teacher Education, Indigenous issues, Indigenous language revitalization, and/or Indigenous expression. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for teaching, research and graduate supervision.
Direct connections and relationships with Indigenous communities, specifically Mi’kmaw communities, is critical to this position. This is a designated position open only to applicants who are Indigenous, with preference given to Mi’kmaw applicants. The successful candidate will be required to provide confirmation of Indigenous identity.
Workload for the position includes teaching and academic advising, scholarly and/or professional activity, and internal and external collegial service. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement with the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association.
