Social Work - Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track

The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Education and Health at Laurentian University in Sudbury invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in Social Work. The preferred start date is January 1, 2026.

Preferred candidates will have completed a doctorate degree in social work, or in a related discipline, with at least one social work degree. Candidates who are currently finishing their doctoral degree and have solid work-related experience will be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate an active research program, teaching excellence at the undergraduate and master’s levels (on campus and/or online) and the ability to supervise graduate-level specialized dissertations or placements, and to contribute to the School and University governance. The successful candidate will be required to work on campus.

The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

  • Academic and professional expertise in one or more of following areas: direct intervention in clinical practice, individual intervention methodology, Indigenous community intervention, mental health and gerontology;
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching in French at the undergraduate and graduate levels (on campus and/or online);
  • Experience mentoring and supporting graduate students and ability to supervise graduate-level specialized dissertations and placements;
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment and contributing to the governance of the School and University as a whole;
  • Clear commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandate;
  • Ability and interest in updating the online bachelor’s program;
  • Ability and interest in understanding and actively contributing to social work training adapted to the realities of minority francophone communities with a focus on the specific needs and challenges of the Franco-Ontarian community;
  • Ability and willingness to engage in dismantling anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism and other oppressive practices that lead to social and health inequities.
