Job Title: Assistant Professor
Position Status: Three (3) Year Contract Limited Term Appointment, OPSEU Local 685
Department: Department of Finance, Economics and Decision Sciences
Location: Sault Ste Marie, Ontario
Preferred Start Date: December 1, 2025 or as negotiated
The position is to primarily support the newly proposed graduate program in Business Analytics. Candidates should be able to contribute to teaching and research relevant to Analytics. Candidates must be able to teach Statistical Analysis and Predictive Modeling. The ability to teach data analytics and supply chain management is a strong asset. Potential to teach a course in building data-driven organizations is a plus. Other Analytics teaching interests can include but is not limited to, Ethics in Data Analytics, Applied Econometrics, Financial Analytics etc. Candidates will also engage in teaching relevant undergraduate and graduate courses offered by the Department. Recent relevant industrial experience is valued. Overall, the ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background, a robust research portfolio, proven teaching capabilities, and the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to contribute to the academic community and beyond.
Qualifications, Expectations & Application Process
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Data Science and Analytics, Management Science, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated relevant academic background, research portfolio, and a record of teaching excellence.
- Experience with remote/online/hybrid instruction is desirable.
- Relevant industrial experience is valued.
Expectations
- Must be able to teach Statistical Analysis & Predictive Modelling (graduate level)
- Ability to teach Data Analytics and Supply Chain Management (graduate level) is a strong asset
- Potential to teach a course in building data-driven organizations (graduate level) is a plus
- Other Analytics teaching interests can include, but are not limited to, Ethics in Data Analytics, Applied Econometrics, Financial Analytics, etc.
- Supervise graduate students in their Analytics Capstone Projects in the MSBA program and potentially Major Research Projects (MRP) in the MGBE program
- Candidates will also engage in teaching relevant undergraduate and graduate courses in the department
- Engage in curriculum development and contribute to the enhancement of the undergraduate and graduate programs
- Participate in service to the university, such as student mentorship, research advising, and academic committees
- Other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the OPSEU Local 685 Full-time faculty collective agreement
