Veterinary Medicine - Assistant/Associate Professor (Infectiology and Experimental Bioimaging)

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Université de Montréal is the only French-language institution of its kind in North America. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology fosters transdisciplinary collaboration that integrates the One Health concept in both teaching and research. We are also committed to restoring, protecting and promoting the health of companion animals, livestock and wildlife. Faculty members in the Department share a common goal of providing students, interns and veterinarians with high-quality theoretical, practical and clinical training in pathology and microbiology.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

• Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise graduate students (master’s and doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows);
• Develop an independent and innovative research program in infectious diseases and experimental bioimaging, focusing on imaging techniques (fluorescence, bioluminescence, X- rays, etc.) in vivo to study the dynamics of infections, explore novel diagnostic approaches, or address topics related to infectious diseases in animal production. Interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged;
• Coordinate the Faculty’s experimental bioimaging platform and benefit from access to the Quebec Bioimaging Network;
• Secure competitive research funding from major funding agencies;
• Contribute to the advancement and visibility of the discipline (publications, conferences, scientific activities, and others);
• Contribute to the functioning of the institution through committees and working groups.

Qualifications

• Hold a doctorate (Ph.D.) in a discipline relevant to the position;
• Have one year of postdoctoral experience or equivalent;
• Have experience in the study of host-pathogen interactions and animal models, using the proposed platform or equivalent;
• Demonstrate an ability to provide high-quality university teaching;
• Propose a high-level research program on topics related to animal production or animal health with the potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
• Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent will be considered an asset;
• Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy
