The Department of Computer Science and Operations Research stands out for the excellence of its research in fundamental and cutting-edge fields and comprises more than 50 professors, 400 graduate students and 700 undergraduate students. The successful candidate will strengthen and diversify the current research themes with their expertise in program analysis and design and implementation of programming languages. Candidates with a research theme related to artificial intelligence could also apply for a position as an IVADO Professor (consortium for research, training and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence), which offers bonified start-up conditions.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:
- Establish an innovative research program, supported by your funding applications to major granting agencies;
- Supervise graduate students;
- Contribute actively to the dissemination of knowledge and to enhancing the reputation of the Université de Montréal by maintaining strong engagement with both local and international research communities through conferences, publications, and academic initiatives;
- Teach at undergraduate and graduate level;
- Contribute to the smooth functioning of the department, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Université de Montréal through your involvement in various activities and local committees.
Qualifications
- Hold a Ph.D. in computer science or related field;
- Strong research record, illustrating the candidate's ability to publish influential work in top-tier programming languages and systems venues;
- Demonstrate ability to provide high quality university teaching;
- Demonstrate potential to develop internal, national and international collaborations;
- Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
