Integrated Studies in Education - Assistant or Associate Professor & Director of Teacher Education

The Department of Integrated Studies in Education invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor & Director of Teacher Education. The successful candidate will demonstrate research and teaching experience directly related to K-Higher Education in the Québec educational context and will work to build a renewed vision for teacher education at McGill. We seek a dynamic scholar and collaborative colleague with a
strong service and leadership record. Knowledge of Québec schools/school boards/school service centers and knowledge of policies associated with teacher education developed by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec are essential for this role. Fluency in French is a strong asset.
Job Duties:
Academic duties include:
- teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervision of individual students, and assessment of student work;
- funded research (applying for grants will be required) and other original scholarly activities, as well as professional activities that contribute to a larger discourse; and
- strong service contributions to the department in the role of Director of Teacher Education, and ability to work towards building a vision to oversee a new unit related to teacher education.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in an Education-related field at the time of taking up the appointment.
The successful candidate must have knowledge of:
- the K-Higher Education Québec educational context;
- teacher-education related policies published by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec;
- the sociopolitical context of education in Québec in an increasingly globalized world;
- the Québec Education Program (QEP);
- theories and practices of teacher education, including approaches to preparing and supporting preservice and in-service teachers;
- issues related to practicum, mentorship, and teacher professional identity;
- current research and policy trends in teacher education at provincial, national, and international levels;
- the preparation and support of equity-deserving preservice teachers, and equitable, inclusive, and anti-oppressive approaches in teacher education;
- Inuit and First Nations
Assets for this position include but are not limited to:
- a specialization in English Language Arts/adolescent literacies, Critical technology and media studies in education, Early childhood education/reading instruction;
- elementary, secondary, vocational, and/or higher education teaching experience in Québec and/or Canada;
- demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting;
- Fluency in French (written and verbal).
