The Department of Biological Sciences brings together research teams committed to training qualified scientists and responsible citizens by engaging in research to advance knowledge and promoting quality teaching. The Department is composed of experts working in a multidisciplinary context to understand all facets of life, whether animal, plant, or microbial, from molecules to ecosystems, and to promote a sustainable environment for future generations. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Institute for Research in Plant Biology (IRBV), which benefits from a unique partnership with the Montreal Botanical Garden.

Successful candidates who would need to improve their French will be offered a free learning program through the university to facilitate their transition into the UdeM and Montréal communities.

Day-to-day responsibilities

Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Teach at all three levels and supervise graduate students;
  • Develop an independent and innovative research program in plant molecular genetics;
  • Contribute to the functioning and development of the Department of Biological Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Université de Montréal through participation in committees and working groups;
  • Disseminate knowledge and promote the University through conferences, publications, and scientific activities.

Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD in molecular biology/plant genetics or a related field;
  • Have an outstanding research record with high-quality publications in leading journals;
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish an independent, innovative, and high-quality research program in the field of plant molecular genetics;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university teaching and student supervision;
  • Demonstrate a capacity to promote your work and the University nationally and internationally;
  • Be determined to establish internal collaborations, particularly at the IRBV;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
