ABOUT ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE PROGRAMS
The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees with majors in both Accounting and Finance. The BBA – Accounting major prepares students for careers as professional accountants in public practice, corporate enterprises, and public institutions. Students completing the BBA – Accounting major can graduate by completing six core accounting and four optional accounting/finance courses, in addition to twenty courses in foundational business topics and ten general education courses. Alternatively, students can choose accounting courses to be prepared for direct entry to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).

The BBA - Finance major offers students three concentration choices: Financial Analysis, Financial Services, and Investment Fund Management. Students completing the Financial Analysis concentration are well prepared to pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst ® (CFA) designation upon graduation. After completing all courses in the Financial Services concentration, students are prepared to write the examinations leading to the Certified Financial Planner ® (CFP) designation. The BBA – Accounting and Finance programs also include an Honours Program and a Co-operative Education option.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on July 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching advanced courses, including but not limited to taxation, auditing, and advanced financial and managerial accounting.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the accounting team and contribute meaningfully to departmental priorities and activities. As the Department of Accounting and Finance considers developing industry connections to be a critically important part of our programs, the selected candidate may be required to actively liaise with the industry partners and professional associations on behalf of the department and the Bissett School of Business. Preference will be given to candidates with experience or background in curriculum development, industry-focused experiential learning pedagogies, and teaching that complies with the CPA competency requirements.

Applicants can apply in either the teaching-scholarship-service (TSS) or the teaching-service (TS) work pattern, depending on the selection criteria as stated below:

TEACHING-SCHOLARSHIP-SERVICE (TSS) WORK PATTERN
Faculty in the TSS work pattern teach six (6) three-hour classes per academic year, conduct scholarly research, and provide academic service at the Department, Faculty, and University levels.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in accounting or a related business discipline, or close to completion of Ph.D. (ABD) from a well-regarded post-secondary institution.
  • An active or emerging research program in accounting or a related business field.
  • Proficiency in teaching in a post-secondary institution or equivalent.

Additionally, the following attributes will be considered to select the ideal candidate:

  • Professional experience in accounting.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • A willingness to mentor and coach students.

TEACHING -SERVICE (TS) WORK PATTERN
The TS work pattern requires teaching eight (8) three-hour classes in an academic year and service at the Department, Faculty, and University levels.

Required Qualifications

  • A completed Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master’s Degree in accounting or a Master’s Degree in a related business discipline or higher from a well-regarded post-secondary institution.
  • A Chartered Professional Designation in accounting, such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • Proficiency in teaching in a post-secondary institution or equivalent.
  • Significant practical professional experience in Accounting.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • A willingness to mentor and coach students.
