Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track.

The UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a hybrid, academically intensive Department within the UBC Faculty of Medicine whose activities span a broad spectrum of teaching, research, and academic service, often performed in the milieu of clinical practice, and are ultimately devoted to improving the care, treatment, and well-being of patients. The Department offers academic degrees at the bachelor’s (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc)) and graduate (MSc, PhD) levels with the graduate program, one of the largest in the Faculty of Medicine, being recognized by UBC for its quality. The Department plays a major role in the MD undergraduate program and offers an accredited residency-training program. Faculty members participate across a spectrum of research from basic investigative to translational to clinical applied research and are recognized locally, nationally and internationally for their excellence.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the successful candidate will be a full qualified and licenced pathologist with subspecialty training in gynecologic pathology. They must have proven research potential and strong computational biology skills. The successful candidate will build a research program within the Molecular and Advanced Pathology Core, working with the Gynecologic Cancer Initiative. It is expected that the candidate will develop and lead the analysis of high dimensional datasets derived from clinically annotated gynecologic cancers including spatial transcriptomics. Proven ability to write successful grants and lead projects is expected. A concurrent position as a clinical gynecologic pathologist is required. Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and concurrently hold licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia as a clinical gynecological pathologist, or be eligible to obtain such licensure at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. They will work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity. The successful candidate will hold an MD/PhD.

  • Assistant Professor, TT: The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity. The candidate will be a fully licenced pathologist with subspecialty expertise in gynecologic cancers. A PhD in gynecologic cancer research and computational biology is preferred.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The expected salary range for this position is $148,000 to $156,000 per annum.
