Trent University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Global Justice & Development at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2025. The Department of Global Justice & Development is seeking a scholar with expertise in gender, the political economy of global development, and human rights. This position is located at Trent’s Peterborough Campus and is subject to budgetary approval.

The Department of Global Justice & Development offers research-informed, pedagogically innovative, and community-engaged undergraduate programs in Trent’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s BA program in Global Development Studies, as well as the BA program in Human Rights and Global Justice. They will also support the following program specializations: Latin American Studies, Gender, Law and Human Rights Advocacy, Global Migration and Refugee Studies, International Law and Policy, and Global Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Social Change. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s areas of strength in critical development studies, particularly as relating to women’s rights in the Global South. An ability to teach introductory courses in both the Global Development Studies and Human Rights and Global Justice programs is a must. An area specialization is an asset. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or be close to completion by the date of appointment) in either Political Economy, Development Studies, Socio-Legal Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Geography or a cognate discipline. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and potential for excellence in research, teaching and service commensurate with the Assistant Professor rank. Responsibilities will include contributing to curriculum development and course delivery in the Department of Global Justice & Development and associated programs and developing and expanding a high-quality externally funded research program, including grants from Canada’s federal funding agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses at the undergraduate level and to develop new courses in their area of focus. The successful candidate also will have opportunities to contribute to Trent’s interdisciplinary research centres and institutes.
