The School of Library and Information Science at the University of Montreal, which awards a Master's degree in Information Science accredited by the American Library Association, is a leader in the field of information science, both in terms of research and teaching, in the French-speaking world and in North America.

The successful candidate will strengthen EBSI by bringing energy and creativity to shared initiatives in teaching, research, and community service.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Develop innovative and internationally competitive research projects both individually and as part of a team, combining theoretical and scientific developments in information science with professional concerns in the field of documentation.
  • Teach in programs at all levels, collaborating to reach the objectives of these programs - in particular those of the Master's in Information Science, recognized by the American Library Association.
  • Promote your research, EBSI, and UdeM through a variety of means: by participating in associations, committees, or external juries; by giving presentations in professional circles; by offering ad hoc training; by communicating in the media; etc.
  • Participate in the management of EBSI and the UdeM by getting involved in departmental, faculty, or university committees.

Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD in archival science or studies, or a discipline relevant to the position;
  • Have an excellent publication record in the field;
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide high-quality university-level teaching;
  • Have the ability to develop a dynamic and original high-level research program in records management;
  • Have proven expertise in archival science/studies, especially in records management;
  • Have a specialisation in one or more of the following areas:
    • Information lifecycle management (theory and methods, retention schedules, classification schemes; archival metadata);
    • Technological environments (organisational information systems, artificial intelligence and automation);
    • Legal aspects (Quebec’s legal and regulatory framework, ethics);
    • Document management processes and practices (needs analysis, creation and analysis of business processes);
  • Demonstrate professional experience or established connections with professional associations in the field of information science (local, national, or international), especially in archival science or records management, as an asset;
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary context, in complementarity with faculty members;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
