On behalf of the 4,000-plus members of the Association of Academic Staff (AASUA) at the University of Alberta (U of A), I would like to respond to President Bill Flanagan’s recent op-ed in the Edmonton Journal in which he announced plans for the U of A to shift away from the framework and language associated with “equity, diversity and inclusion” to a new framework and language centred around “access, community, and belonging.
