Founded in 1926, St. Paul’s College is affiliated with the University of Manitoba and is Manitoba’s only Catholic College. The College invites applications for the position of Rector (a position equivalent to president and chief executive officer). The initial appointment is for a five-year term, with potential for renewal.

The Rector is responsible for advancing the mission of the College, by promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service in the Ignatian tradition. The Rector oversees the development of the College’s academic programs, campus ministry, student awards, research programs, and alumni, friends, and donor relations. This includes leading a team of 15 support staff to serve 850 student members and 55 Assembly members, which is comprised of faculty and invited writers and researchers. In addition, the Rector is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Jesuit Centre for Catholic Studies, the Near Eastern Biblical Archeology Laboratory, and the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace and Justice.

The Rector is a member of the Board of Governors of St. Paul’s College and the St. Paul’s College Foundation Board of Directors, chair of the Board of the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace and Justice, and an ex officio member of all College committees. Additionally, the Rector is a member of the University of Manitoba’s Senate, Provost’s Council, and Deans and Directors Council, and represents St. Paul’s College in national and international organizations dedicated to Catholic higher education. The College is a member of Universities Canada.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to Ignatian educational values including social justice, the search for truth by faith and reason, ecumenical and inter-faith dialogue, as well as community well-being. The successful candidate will hold a PhD, have 7-10 years of senior leadership experience, and be a senior academic with strong management and financial skills. The individual will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and have the capacity to promote the College among key constituents within the University of Manitoba and the wider community.

The search committee will begin its review of candidates in October 2026 and will continue until the position is successfully filled. Please note that the incumbent Rector is retiring effective July 1, 2027, and is not a candidate for the position.
