Ancient Greek Archaeology - Assistant Professor

As a professor of Ancient Greek Archaeology, you will strengthen expertise in the field of antiquity in the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Department of History, as well as in material culture in the Centre for Classical Studies.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

• Teach ancient Greek archaeology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses range from large introductory courses to specialized graduate research seminars; 
• Contribute to training the next generation of ancient Greek archaeologists by supervising research projects and providing hands-on training at the graduate level; 
• Develop an innovative and high-quality research program in ancient Greek archaeology that will contribute to the national and international reputation of the Department of History and the Centre for Classical Studies; 
• Actively participate in the life of the Department, Centre for Classical Studies, the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Université de Montréal through contributions to committees and working groups;
• Actively contribute to strengthening the Department’s and the Centre for Classical Studies’ community outreach, as well as the University’s public presence, through conferences, publications and other activities;
• Take an active part in the Université de Montréal's Archaeological Excavation in Greece.

Qualifications

• Hold a PhD in Archaeology, History, or a related field. Preferred periods: from the Protogeometric period to the Hellenistic period. All research topics will be considered. Candidates close to completing their doctorate are welcome to apply; 
• Have an excellent publication record; 
• Demonstrate an ability to provide high-quality university-level teaching and to supervise students;  
• Demonstrate a capacity to develop institutional, national, and international research collaborations;
• Have high-level expertise and practical experience in archaeological excavation;
• Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
