Universities Canada welcomes new president and CEO
Gabriel Miller will start the new leadership role on March 18, 2024.
Universities Canada, formerly known as the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, has announced Gabriel Miller as its next president and chief executive officer. Mr. Miller is currently president and chief executive officer of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Mr. Miller is an experienced not-for-profit leader who has built a career in member relations, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and public policy development. Before joining the Federation, Mr. Miller held several senior roles with the Canadian Cancer Society, eventually asusming the position of vice-president of public issues, policy and cancer information. His previous experience includes helping to build coalitions that led to a federal ban on asbestos in 2016 and the 10-year national infrastructure plan announced in 2013.
Mr. Miller has served as a member of several not-for-profit boards and on the Government of Canada’s Diamond Jubilee Advisory Committee. He holds a B.A. from Queen’s University.
Deep Saini, president and vice-chancellor of McGill University and Universities Canada’s board chair, said in a press release that Mr. Miller’s record of accomplishment and commitment to public dialogue makes him an ideal leader. “We believe that Gabriel’s strategic vision and commitment to dialogue align seamlessly with our values and goals at Universities Canada,” added President Saini.
Universities Canada’s interim president and CEO since July 1, 2023, Philip Landon, will continue as chief operations officer.
