As the now-chairperson of the B.C. Federation of Students, Chirino says the new requirement will restrict the number of foreign students who can study in Canada. B.C. was the province accepting the highest number of international students last year, a total of 164,875, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Chirino says that number stands to dwindle, with the country losing out on a host of economic benefits from foreign students.
